The photos you will see here are very eclectic.   They come from making a camera part of the experience while pursuing a variety of interests, including travel, people and their pastimes, natural and manmade beauty, and wildlife.  Although there is much more here, the subjects I most enjoy are action, wildlife behavior, human behavior, macro, and cities at night.  As with all photographers, light is paramount; but I also value a clean, uncluttered image, shape and composition, the vibrancy and balance of color, and the gradations of black and white.

I began photographing in Korea in 1959.  Living in San Francisco for most of the 1960’s, I spent many weekend days, camera in hand, looking for photo ops which those summers of love provided in plenty.  My camera was set aside while Nancy and I raised our family, but, as a corporate writer, I worked alongside many professional photographers, learning much about the craft from all of them.  I took up the camera again seriously when retirement gave me the time.  Nancy, too, developed an interest, especially after our first trip together to Antarctica in 1995.

All but a handful of the photos have been taken since we converted to digital in 2005 in anticipation of our trip to Africa.  The wildlife preserves of Africa, the South Georgia Islands and Antarctica, and the Greek Isles – those are the places I could return to again and again.
